COWAPA Choir Festival

THS CONCERT CHOIR is the best!! We got edged out from State on the 21st, but we have a second chance and we just have to go and take it! Get ready to work hard our first week back. We'll have sectionals to talk about what each section can do to improve and then get busy!! Plus....we'll start working on our Spring Concert and Graduation music. Yes...the end of the year is near. It's been a super run this year! I've included some candid shots from the bus ride. I didn't get any shots in the auditorium, but I'll try and snap some on the 6th. GOOD JOB, TILLAMOOK!!!

ALL-CHOIR CONCERT FANTASTIC!!
We had a great concert Monday night...March 19th.
The Junior High Choir sang out and impressed all the older singers...your "Elvis" number was sung masterfully.
Mixed Choir...you had harmonies that soothed our ears. Way to go!!
Honor Choir Singers...your rendition of "Lord, I know I been changed" was executed extremely fine. Danielle..you sang your solos just right! You held together wonderfully. And Sean....you've never sung your "Loch Lomond" solo any better!!!!!!!!!!! You know the 8th grade girls are in love with you.
Concert Choir...you are READY for Districts...which are today, BTW. Katie...you're solo was beautiful! Keep singing always.
Sathington Willoughby and the Love Train...what can I say, guys?? You brought the house down. Your material was original and fun to watch...and hear. All the girls say "hey".
Vocal Ensemble...a great ending to a wonderful evening. You people have the talent, tackle difficult music and make it sound smooth and beautiful. AND...you know how to have a good time, which the audience loves. "Rich Man" was a great "grand finale". Nathan's solo added that special touch.
Well...that's my summary. We leave for Districts in 2 hours. More about the continuing adventures of the THS Choral Department later....stay tuned. Oh...and for the picture...just a random shot from last year "hanging out" on the office couches....just because.

TRI-M MUSIC HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTION
On Sunday afternoon, January 21st, Tillamook High Sch
ool held it's annual Tri-M Music Honor Society Induction Ceremony. We inducted 12 new members. For the induction, students that have been nominated and have accepted the "call" perform a piece during the Induction Ceremony. Then students repeat an oath of commitment, receive their pin, certificate and patch and enjoy some refreshments. Isn't this cake awesome? Solid Grounds Bakery did the cake and it looks just like the Tri-M logo!! ...and it tasted fantastic!!
Tillamook's Tri-M Music Honor Society began in 1972, went on for quite awhile, then the charter was dropped. I reinstated the charter last year and think it's great that we can honor our high school musicians this way.
To qualify, students need to hold a B average in music classes and a C average in other curriculum areas. Students also need to model good leadership, citizenship and (of course) musicianship.
We'll be having our first meeting later this week. I don't think we can all fit in the choir room office, so we'll have to meet in the main choir room. View the Tri-M link on the right to learn more about this great organization.

ALL-STATE CHOIR PICTURE & A MARCH UPDATE
You know....March 4th is a great day! When I taught elementary general music I'd always ask my classes what day it was and when they said "March 4th" I'd start marching around the room
...(march forth...get it???). They usually didn't think it was that funny, either.
Here's a picture of our 2 All-State Choir Singers that travelled to Eugene in January. Also...an All-State Band person who also happens to be in the THS choir program. (I haven't compiled all of the returned Internet Permission Slips so I'm not posting names yet.)
Our ALL-CHOIR CONCERT is Monday, March 19th at 7:00 PM in the Don Whitney Auditorium. We have a great concert lined up. BOTH Junior High and High School choirs will be performing, as well as our barbershop quartet "Sathington Willowby and the Love Train". I'll have to get a picture of them posted soon.
Wednesday, March 21st the THS Concert Choir travels to St. Helens High School for our COWAPA Choir Festival. This is one of our big competitions for the year. We'll be going to Clatskanie High School Friday, April 6th for the OMEA District 3 Choir Festival. Both of these Festivals are state qualifying events and we're working hard!
There's been a lot going on in the choir department with plenty more in store!!
Stay "tuned in" right here. Bookmark this blog. I promise to post more often with more exciting pictures and news of upcoming events. Keep a song in your heart!
HONOR CHOIR 2007
We had a great time at District 3 Honor Choir this year. Tillamook was represented by 13 singers pictured here. We met at Forest Grove High School on a Friday and Saturday and performed a concert for our family and friends Saturday afternoon. The opportunity to sing with other devoted musicians is always a boost to our individual choir programs!
