Brian Kellow, a local Tillamookian, who now writes books and lives in New York City, has written a book entitled Ethel Merman: A Life. She was the queen of Musical Theater. She's known for her roles in Annie Get Your Gun, Anything Goes (last year's musical at THS), Hello Dolly and Gypsy - to name a few.
Brian will be discussing his new book about Ethel and will be available for book signings. He also has a clip of Ethel singing "There's No Business Like Show Business".
He'll be at the Tillamook Library this Saturday, August 2nd at Noon.
I love musical theater and plan on being there. If you'd like to learn more about the history of musical theater. . . and . . . Ethel Merman . . . you should go.
Here's the link for you VE members to click on and practice...hint - hint...

Click on B and scroll down until you find the www.willamette.edu note in the bottom left hand corner. It's the second listing...listen to that version...I like it.
Thanks for coming today and trying on dresses & singing. You're sounding good!!! --Mrs. H
I'll be calling you Vocal Ensemble Ladies, but if you see this before I get a call out to you, call me or come by my house today or tomorrow.
If my red rig is in the driveway, but nobody answers the door, I'm probably working in the backyard.
Here it is the 9th of July and I've posted zilch so far this month. I've been teaching a music unit to elementary-aged children at the East School Summer's Exploration Program. It's just a few hours Monday-Thursday... and tomorrow we go on a field trip to McMinnville to see the Space Museum and the Spruce Goose. Have I ever said I love field trips? I do. I'm looking forward to it!!
I spent 4 hours in my backyard today pulling weeds and tidying up the landscape. There are many more hours of back yard (and front yard work) ahead. I may take a picture or two when (positive thinking) I get everything looking presentable.
As you can see...there's not a whole lot to blog about...which is pretty cool for a change. I try to keep this site for school related information, so you'll have to excuse my summer "chatter".
The VE Car Wash MAY still be the 19th. Stay posted. I don't want to drive to the wedding by myself (mostly in an effort to conserve gasoline) so the plans are still up in the air.
Also...the VE dresses have been ordered and will be sent to my home address, so I'll let you VE Ladies know when they arrive so you can try them on.
I've included a picture from the Solo & Ensemble Contest in Astoria last year...just a bonus. I hope you had a great 4th of July. Keep singing.
