A POSTPONEMENT

Music On the Menu won't happen on Feb. 25th as previously planned.
The Jazz Band has a rescheduled field trip that day
which involves many of our Tri-M members.
Stay tuned for the new performance date.

DR. BRAND VISIT

Today I reconnected with my college voice teacher, Dr. Myra Brand.

What a delight to see her again. It's been 31 years! You'd think we lived on separate continents . . . but we live just 2 hours away from each other.

Thanks to Mrs. Serven (Nestucca HS choir director) for including me in her plans.

Hearing Myra coach again was an inspiration.

OREGON SYMPHONY BRASS & STRINGS

Our partnership with the Oregon Symphony is bringing live professional musicians right into our classrooms. This is such a fantastic experience.

A brass quintet came to the Junior High Friday and played for the student body in the gym.

A string quintet came to play for the Mixed Choir and Vocal Ensemble just a couple of hours later.

Each choir sang with the string quintet. The strings played the piano part.

Tillamook School District had a very culturally enrichi
ng day.

ALL-NW CHOIR 2009

Sean represented the Tillamook High School Choral department in fine style as he rehearsed and performed with the 2009 All-NW Mixed Choir.

Arriving in Spokane, WA Thursday evening - February 12th - rehearsals began that night.

The Gala Choral Concert was held in the INB Auditorium in downtown Spokane on Sunday, February 15th.

The Mixed Choir was comp
rised of 332 singers from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming. Can you find Sean in either picture? (No, Karla - his portrait pix doesn't count) :-)

Thank you to the Tillamook Boosters for buying our airplane tickets so we could fly to Spokane. (I attended the All-NW MENC Conference while Sean was in rehearsals.)

The plane was filled with All-NW musicians both ways.

The cellists on the plane actually had to buy a seat for their cellos.

Get ready singers, I'm all energized with new ideas and techniques.

HONOR CHOIR

This year Honor Choir was in St. Helens.

It was a bit of a drive, but we got there in time to register and find our seats on stage.

After a morning of practicing we had time for lunch. . . in the sun!

With a little more practice and meeting our director, Doree Jarboe, we checked into our Best Western and traveled Cornelius Pass to eat dinner at Red Robins (yummmm).

A little swimmi
ng . . . I spared everyone pictures of that :-) and we settled into our rooms for a good nights sleep.

Saturday we arrived at the auditorium and waited to be called up to the stage again.

We rehearsed more and then changed into our formal wear for the performance.

We looked goooooood:
We even made it back in time for Marquise to sing the National Anthem at the Smoker. Now that was a weekend to remember!
