COWAPA LEAGUE CHOIR FESTIVAL 2009

What a week . . .

An All-Choir Concert on Monday . . .

An End-Of-Winter Band Concert on Tuesday . . .

And our annual COWAPA League Choir Festival today . . .

Here are some shots of our trip to Astoria:

We were missing 10 singers . . . yes . . . 10!

(20% of our choir)

This "sick bug" hit us hard.

The 42 of you that made the trip did an outstanding job
of getting our music performed.

We just missed 1st place by a 1/2 point.

You have nothing to be sorry about.

The one thing that MIGHT have put us over the top was basically. . .

a smile.

Yup . . . more facial expression on Gloria.

It's the little things that count.

We're goin' in the
State Tape Pool, though.

There's still a chance we can go to the
State Choir Championships. It would be wonderful to sing one more time with a full compliment of singers (all 52 of you).

Just keep thinking positive thoughts.

I'll type up
the judges comments and we'll review them after Spring Break.

And by the way . . .

I know quite a few of you had to stay after school to take tests that
you missed due to the Festival today. I'm impressed with the extra
effort you
give to be the best you can be.

HIGH FIVES TO ALL OF YOU.

We have new music to learn for our Spring Concert when you
get back to school so remember . . . keep singing!

And . . .

HAVE A GREAT SPRING BREAK ! ! !

FOOD ANYONE?

The Vocal Ensemble organized concessions for the Oregon Symphony String Concert on March 10th.

It makes me hungry just looking at that well stocked table.

And all those happy fa
ces - well - give me some of that cake!

GREGORY VAJDA REHEARSES CONCERT CHOIR

Wednesday, March 3rd, Gregory Vajda came to THS and rehearsed the Concert Choir (and members of the Tillamook Community Choir) in our 2 Oregon Symphony pieces: Anthem of Peace and An American Tribute.

And let me say . . . I was SO PROUD OF YOU. You handled yourselves maturely and sang very well!! I hope I remember to tell you during rehearsal soon.

(Tuesday night, 3 members of our choir attended the TCC rehearsal. It's been a choir exchange of sorts.)

Wednesday was our one and only "private" rehearsal with Gregory before our big dress rehearsal on Friday afternoon, May 1 and Saturday morning, May2. These two rehearsals will involve the band pieces, too. Set those dates aside, singers. There's a sign-up sheet in the choir room for all that want to sing. You'll receive extra credit points for singing . . . this is an awesome opportunity. Not too many people can claim they sang with a symphonic orchestra! If you have questions, talk to me.

SOLO & ENSEMBLE

February 28th Mr. Coughlin and I drove 9 THS musicians to Astoria HS to compete in the District 3 Solo & Ensemble Contest. Here's the breakdown:
Aleen on the flute
Josh H. on the snare drum
Will on t
he trumpet
Jason on the ???
what does he play?
Cole on the alto saxophone
Josh & Cole singing a duet
Beau singin
g a tenor solo
Lisa singing a soprano solo
Lacy & Sharyl singing a duet
Judith & Sharyl singing a duet
(If you've counted closely, you'll notice 11 names . . . 2 singers were in Astoria already with parents.)Mr. Coughlin presents Lacy with her ribbon from LAST year.

Caryn, Will, Aleen, Beau, Lisa (the shy one) and Josh all hang out around lunch time.

I think everyone of them walked away with a life experience/lesson, although nobody from Tillamook is going on to State competition.

We got a yummy DQ treat out of the trip, too!!
